Friday 25 SAVONA - Monte Argentario - PITIGLIANO

6:30 pm Departure from Valleggia.

6:45 pm Savona, Piazza Mameli and other agreed milestones.

Saturday 26 PITIGLIANO - Abbadia San Salvatore - SAVONA

08.00 am Continue to visit Pitigliano strolling through the picturesque alleys, stairways and characterized by sixteenth-century decor, surrounded by green valleys so as to appear as a "magical vision." In late morning we will go to Abbadia S. Salvatore, at the foot of Mount Amiata, which preserves the majestic facade of the abbey stone locked between two towers, founded in the eighth century by the Lombards. The town developed around the abbey especially in the twelfth century, but in 1347 the monks, who exercised the rights of sovereignty over the castle, they sold this right to the Republic of Siena in Abbadia S. Salvatore was a member until passed to the Florentine state in 1555. Inside the museum are unique pieces that bear witness to the heritage of the monastery. Among the most important pieces a casket-shrine of the eighth century, the shrine of St. Mark Pope, shaped like a bust, A. Romanelli (1381), a ninth-century chasuble and a tiled floor of the fifteenth century Sienese already the Church of the Madonna del Castagno.
