Friday 25 SAVONA - Monte Argentario - PITIGLIANO
6:30 pm Departure from Valleggia.
6:45 pm Savona, Piazza Mameli and other agreed milestones.
10.45 The first half of our journey takes us to Monte Argentario , as described by American novelist Robert Penn Warren: "Place stone ruin and sea caves. Rocca: fortress, hawk's claws, paws of a lion, on top of a hill. "
will visit the fortress of Porto Ercole which hosted the English garrisons in 1557 when they became the masters of the promontory . He died in 1610, exhausted from malaria, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio and was buried in St. Erasmus.

15.30 pm Departure to Pitigliano, included among "The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy". The town is lying on a rock shaped like a crescent, isolated by erosion of ancient rivers and defended by three sixteenth-century fortifications. Orsini Palace is the largest monument of Pitigliano: medieval origins, the residence of the Orsini Counts was restored in the first half of the 500, by the architect Antonio da Sangallo, according to Renaissance. Very interesting is the Ghetto, where so many memories remain of the Jewish community lived for half a millennium in Pitigliano. It was a place of refuge for the Israelites and an example of coexistence between Jews and Christians, earning the definition of "Little Jerusalem ". The Synagogue was recently restored and regained its original furnishings. Under the synagogue develop various rooms dug into the tuff - the ritual bath, the kosher butcher and the wine cellar, the furnace of unleavened bread - all restored in recent years. Just outside, the Jewish cemetery contains 800 memorials.

Saturday 26 PITIGLIANO - Abbadia San Salvatore - SAVONA
08.00 am Continue to visit Pitigliano strolling through the picturesque alleys, stairways and characterized by sixteenth-century decor, surrounded by green valleys so as to appear as a "magical vision." In late morning we will go to Abbadia S. Salvatore, at the foot of Mount Amiata, which preserves the majestic facade of the abbey stone locked between two towers, founded in the eighth century by the Lombards. The town developed around the abbey especially in the twelfth century, but in 1347 the monks, who exercised the rights of sovereignty over the castle, they sold this right to the Republic of Siena in Abbadia S. Salvatore was a member until passed to the Florentine state in 1555. Inside the museum are unique pieces that bear witness to the heritage of the monastery. Among the most important pieces a casket-shrine of the eighth century, the shrine of St. Mark Pope, shaped like a bust, A. Romanelli (1381), a ninth-century chasuble and a tiled floor of the fifteenth century Sienese already the Church of the Madonna del Castagno.
